Issue Background

Mortgage Financing

The Network advocates for a housing finance system that grants equitable access to credit for lower income and minority homebuyers, especially those purchasing homes in permanently affordable housing programs.

Buyers in permanently affordable housing programs continue to face challenges in obtaining home loans despite the impressive performance of mortgage loans held by these borrowers. The Network will continue to advocate for:

  1. Housing finance reform that improves the housing finance industry and advances equitable and responsible lending;
  2. Access to FHA-insured mortgages for buyers in permanently affordable housing programs;
  3. Improved access and systems in the secondary market for borrowers in permanently affordable housing; and
  4. Stronger and better partnerships between private lending institutions and permanently affordable homeownership programs.
